DATA AND DOWNTIME Your data is your business now and you must protect it as well as learn from your service company how to grow into the new technology without crippling your productivity with complicated upgrades and unnecessary devices that you are not ready to utilize. People will try to sell you a bill of goods, but you must know exactly what you want to do and communicate that clearly, if the service company is worth it’s salt, they will suggest solutions that fit your needs and your budget. They should also be able to show you a plan for implementing those solutions with minimal interference to your operations. MAKE A BACKUP If you do nothing else for yourself or your organization, get a reliable backup device. It can be a tape drive, a re-writeable CD-ROM or an extra hard disk (internal or external), but you need to find a backup program that will backup ALL of your drive information, including your registry and your data. In other words, A COMPLETE BACKUP. Some people are content to backup only their data, but with all of the complicated operating systems, software packages, configurations and setting for browsers and internet providers, it could take more than 20 hours to restore your computer to the state it was in when it crashed!!! Do you really have that kind of time (or patience) to re-create your system??? MAKE A BACKUP!!! |
